Dog Castration or Neutering is a common procedure performed at our Veterinary Clinic. The need to castrate a dog early in its life to prevent future disease is less important than early neutering of a bitch. However, it can be done from 5 months of age before a dog goes through puberty.
Some diseases of the bottom and the prostate can he controlled with castration and is often a reason to castrate older male dogs.
Castrating is a quick procedure done under General Anaesthetic and most dogs will be back to normal but the following morning. We operate most days at the clinic so please call if you want to book your doggie in or want to discuss any aspect of the procedure or his care with one of the team.
To keep your dog slim and healthy after the op. we would recommend a change in diet. With reduced calories that encourages the formation or muscle rather than fat. Royal Canin neutered range appears the be excellent at this.
