Devoted animal lover, Jordana, at Vet4Life, is living the dream after realising her ambition to become a registered veterinary nurse (RVN).

As the industry recognises Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month (VNAM), Jordanna Hurling, who works for Linnaeus-owned Vet4Life across their three practices in south west London, is celebrating after she gained a distinction in her nursing studies.

Jordanna said: “I was at work at Vet4Life when I received my results and I opened them with my clinical supervisor Caroline Gobetti.

“When we saw the pass mark we were both jumping with excitement. I had passed my qualification with a distinction and had achieved my goal – first time, too!”

Jordanna said the two-and-a-half years of studying combined with working at Vet4Life’s clinics in Shepperton, Surbiton and Teddington ensured she was always busy.

She said: “We covered everything from basic animal handling to studying the full anatomy of cats, dogs and rabbits.

“The course was very challenging, especially as I was also working full time, but it was also beneficial as I could apply the lessons learnt straight into my role, which made me a stronger nurse.

“Now, my day-to-day responsibilities include nurse consults, taking care of inpatients, taking bloods, placing intravenous lines, monitoring anaesthesia and much more.

“I am also the cat-friendly advocate for our Surbiton and Shepperton branches and the Infection Control Champion across all three of our branches.”

Jordanna is keen to continue progressing with Vet4Life, adding: “I am looking forward to using my skills as an RVN and continuing to improve and learn more skills.

“I’d also like to become a clinical coach and teach the next generation of RVNs and achieve a range of certificates mainly in Emergency Critical Care and feline medicine and behaviour.”

Clinical nursing manager at Vet4Life Jessica Harding was quick to praise Jordanna’s progression, adding: “It has been amazing to watch Jordanna grow throughout her career with us. Over the past five years she has gained lots of experience and developed her nursing and professional skills.

“She is a fantastic veterinary nurse and does everything in her power to put our patients first. Jordanna has such high standards and ensures we are constantly growing and improving our quality of care.

“Jordanna is a very driven veterinary nurse, we are all very proud of her achievement and we can't wait to see what the future holds for her.”
